THE HEARTBEAT MOMENTS //
as a portrait photographer, i love people. everything i do behind the lens is by the people, for the people. there are three portrait sessions on a wedding day: the couple, the family and wedding party (if there is one). (my approach to portraits is also a spectrum).
outside of these, your entire day is approached by (say it with me now): candid. candid meaning the photographer isn’t giving direction; life is just happening. however, the entire day, i watch the moment(s) and how this translates for a photo: do i be quiet and not interject? do i jump in with a direction (“YOU GUYS GET TOGETHER!”) there is a balance, there is reading a room, feeling out a scene and people, there is asking permission to take a photo, there is capturing a moment, there is so much psychology with humans and how we interact (and keep changing) in front of cameras. (for my next Ted Talk..)
however, in the editing room, directed or unscripted, i call them the heartbeat moments - the moments where people are just people. the frames i know the couple will adore and laugh along or tear up with tender emotion. and for that, this post illustrates just that; our classic portrait must-haves, but also the gems that appear in the editing room that make me fall in love with your wedding days over and over again, and why i am obsessed with photographing weddings.
