portrait session guide
We have a portrait session coming up, and I am so excited! I thrive on photographing people, and it's my job to make you feel comfortable and, above all, look good! If we discussed these topics during our consultation, this is a gentle reminder.
My goal in the session is to photograph you in two different outfits, one casual and the other a bit dressier. Changing outfits is not mandatory, but it is recommended for all portrait sessions.
These are your photos, and the best place to start is to wear what you love and what feels the most "you!"
OUTFIT PLANNING //
Avoid graphic, distracting logos.
Avoid distracting patterns (like plaid) or bold, jarring colors, such as hot pink & reds. While these aren't totally off-limits, I prefer to coordinate with the backdrop/location to ensure they complement rather than distract.
Coordinate outfits to fit a 'theme.' It's best to dress as if you're attending the same event.
Coordinate colors to be complementary with one another.
Neutrals are the go-to option. Think gray, brown, black, beige, ivory, cream, etc.
If you need more ideas or suggestions, I am always happy to help!
PRO TIP//
Bring all the options with you! I love helping you choose and play with options to find what works best on camera.
Prepare the best version of you; whatever makes you feel confident and comfortable. If you're looking for professional hair or makeup recommendations, I'd be happy to connect you with trusted, local artists.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION//
Don't worry, my approach is a mix of guiding you when needed and giving space for natural moments to unfold. I'll direct when it helps, but I'll also step back when you're in your own worlds.
Fun is what it's all about. The best photographs are captured when you feel relaxed, connected, and are genuinely enjoying yourself and the process. Take a deep breath, lean into the experience, and let yourself have fun. I take my work seriously, but I strive to make the process feel easy and joyful. It's not every day you get photographed!
